Caption

Same view of Mount Hood as Image #109, with visible loss of glaciers and much less residual snowpack. A result, say geologists, of increasing warmth and length of summer and changes in the amount and height of winter snow (snow at lower elevations now more often falls as rain). Sandy Glacier (center) has lost about 40% of its ice since first measured in early 20th century.
