Chemistry: Challenges and Solutions

Insulin Encapsulation (animation)

Insulin is a small molecule that, if swallowed, would be quickly broken down in the digestive system and never reach the bloodstream. At Aphios Corporation, researchers are enveloping insulin in a polymer that resists digestive acids and enzymes, making nanoparticles that are small enough to slip through the intestinal walls and enter the bloodstream.
