Most people are surprised that the volume of the shorter glass is about 11 percent more than the volume of the taller glass. That's because people perceive how much the glass holds to be based on the height and radius. However, the volume actually depends on the product of the height and the radius squared. It's that extra factor of the radius that makes the volume of the shorter glass exceed the volume of the taller glass
