To see how the CCR5 protein is different in the EU men, the CCR5 gene was isolated and sequenced from EU2 and EU3. Portions of the sequences are shown here. Although EU2 and EU3 are not related, their CCR5 genes are identical, shown here with the normal CCR5 gene sequence. Nucleotides are grouped to show the open reading frame (ORF).
