Social Studies: Educational Curriculum

Social Comparison and FOMO

In this section we’re going to be learning about a psychological and sociological concept that we’re all familiar with in some way called “social comparison.” It has been studied in the fields of psychology and sociology for many decades, and has taken on new meaning with greater impact in the age of social media. In these classes, we’ll try to understand why we compare ourselves to other people, what types of comparisons are good or bad for us and why, what social media has to do with it all, and what we can do about it.
