Engineering Towers | Elementary School Educator Curriculum

Building Our Tower

Devise a method of reflecting on the engineering process through the use of journaling.

Relying on engineering, communication and record keeping, students use a method of keeping track of their design progress. Use engineering logs to keep a tangible record of everything that is done within the design project.

OBJECTIVE: Learners learn reflection by keeping track of their process in an engineering log.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Use this log during the tower design build.
  2. Keeping track of your process and modifications will help support your overall product.
  3. Make sure to reflect on each design decision.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:

  • What did you learn about your materials as you constructed your tower?
  • What might you have to change in your design?
  • Why might you have to make those changes?
