This Sunday, I sighted at least two male Baltimore Orioles at my Lake Poygan property 100 miles north of Madison. I had filled eight jelly cups (4 2-cup feeders) the previous Sunday--all were "licked clean" by the time I arrived this Sunday. So I filled all four 2-cup feeders (total of 16 cups of jelly) and, considering the consumption rate last summer, I expect they will all be empty well before the weekend. When I filled the nectar feeders (4) with boiled sugar water and hung them, a male Oriole was on it immediately.
Last year FOUR pairs of Baltimore Orioles nested and fledged young (around eight survived)along with one pair of ORCHARD ORIOLES, who also nested on this semi-wooded 2 1/2 lake lot area!
