Again, I enjoyed the texts that were chosen and the purposeful questions of the teacher. I know that the students that I teach would be able to relate to each of the texts that were selected. I have a student right now who is spending all of her spare time with her grandmother who is dying. I have students that are following someone just like Harry and ending up in bad places. I have students that don't know where they belong and just want to take flight away from it all. What my students would not be able to relate to is Executive Order 9066. This is why I believe literature is so powerful and the reason I choose to teach multicultural literature. I live in a fairly isolated valley that mostly has two local cultures--Hispanic and white. I love bringing other culture awareness into their lives by exploring different cultures through stories.
