Taylor Elementary School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a Title I, K4 school which has about 700 students; about 80% are of Hispanic descent and about 20% are African-American. The mission of the school is to equip students with the skills necessary to gain academic achievement, respect for themselves and others, and to maintain a desire for lifelong learning. There is a large component of bilingual education in place, and many innovative support programs for students, teachers, and parents. This year, for the first time, they have initiated the Everyday Mathematics program.

Damaris Cortés has been at Taylor Elementary School for eleven years. Currently she's teaching a non-graded 3-4 classroom of English speaking students. She is using some components of other programs along with the Everyday Math modules and is enthusiastic about it.

Teresa Alvarez has been at Taylor Elementary School for eleven years. Currently she's teaching 29 first and second grade students in a bilingual classroom. Students' enthusiasm for the Everyday Math program in her classroom is high, and she's enthusiastic about it in spite of the extra work involved in introducing a new program.
