What's
your biggest challenge in teaching?
I think my biggest
struggle is to meet all the students' needs. I think it's very difficult
when you have 16, 20, 25 children, to teach them individually. I don't
think you can do that unless you're a very good teacher. And if you
are, please tell me how you find the time to do it! I always struggle
with making sure I know the students well enough so that I can take
them to the next step, so that I can move them beyond what they already
know. Sometimes, though, when I assume they know something, and try
to take them to the next step, I realize that maybe I should have started
with the basics.
What
has been your biggest surprise about teaching?
My biggest surprise
about teaching has been how hard it is. In order to be a very good teacher,
you have to work very hard and be proficient in so many different areas.
It takes a lot of planning, and commitment to continued professional
development.
