Create An Experiment

Please fill out information about your experiment in the form below. This information will become the profile for your particular experiment. After you've completed this form, you can make changes to it at any time by going to Edit Your Experiment.

Each experiment should have at least:

  1. A title describing the experiment (e.g., In what liquids will a seed sprout and grow?)
  2. A broad category that describes the variable you are investigating
  3. 3-5 different conditions ( e.g., control, sugar water, salt water, diluted dish soap, vinegar water)

For more guidelines about the experiment, read Bean Bag Help.

Your Experiment Profile

1. Experiment Title

The title above should be relatively brief. The title helps us categorize your experiment and makes it easily accessible by other teachers (e.g., In what liquids will a seed sprout and grow?). Use the areas below to elaborate upon your experiment.

2. Variable to investigate:

medium (e.g., liquids, soil, etc.)
seed type (e.g., lima bean, kidney bean, etc.)
environment (e.g., light/dark, temperature, etc.)
seed part (e.g., whole seed, seed coat, no seed leaves, etc.)
other

3. Your Conditions, in brief: (e.g., water, vinegar, soap, etc.)

Number of beans per condition
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Experiment Predictions

What do you think will happen? What factors do you think will influence the outcomes?

Experiment Methods and Procedures

How did you set up your experiment? What materials did you use? How did you observe and measure the beans?

Results and Conclusions

Were your predictions accurate ? Why or why not? What would you do differently next time? What did you learn about seeds?

How might you use this experiment in your classroom?
Be sure to go to the Bean Bag Conversation to share these and other ideas.
