Self Check Techniques
Tape Record a Lesson
One technique you can use to examine your teaching is to tape record a lesson (or part of a lesson). Later, listen to the tape and analyze what you hear. This technique is especially useful for examining your interactions with your students.
Tips for tape recording:
- Explain to your students why you are recording.
- Wear a fanny pack or carpenter apron to allow you to move around the classroom.
- Analyze short (5 or 10 min) segments from the beginning, middle, and end of the lesson.
- Record different types of lessons.
