[Teacher-talknovel] In Search of the Novel #6

What's in it for me? A good question. As we teach students why they must
read the novels we choose, they will begin to understand what is in it for
them.
I love to see my students to make connections with the works we are
reading. They find that they can understand what a character is going
through or what a character is thinking. Students find that they have been
in similar situations.
Having someone to feel connected to is important--even if the person is a
character in a novel. Fictional characters aren't really made up. They
are people with different names doing the same stuff. This can make
students feel like they are not alone. This is what is in it for students.
