hi, I'm a student in a class. I read your post on the Crucible as seen below. I'm having a bit of trouble, were reading the crucible right now. We usually read aloud in class, I'm having some trouble making the connection, but I don't have the book on tape, and Ideas Heather?
     Sincerely,
          Cassady

I did an observation of students listening to The Crucible on tape,
while the class I am interning with read aloud and I read the narration
parts. I think the main difference is that some tapes are wonderful and
others are not. I think that we as teachers still need to be motivated
and excited about what the students are reading so that the students are
too. I do think that books on tape would benefit those who are not yet
producing the images in their heads. There is a lab at the school that
has 22 stations for the students to sit and listen to tapes. I think
that when there is silent reading this would be a great option for
students. Many text books offer books on tape to go with the short
stories. For many students it is the way that the words are read that
help make the connections. If a speech is read with power and feeling,
it will be more effective than if the students are reading it and
    stumbling over the words.
    Heather
