In response to Jody's question, both my 3rd and 5th grade children and I read the books and loved them. I had heard that the "moral majority" was coming out against the drinking of unicorn blood in the first book. I had already read this book, and hadn't even noticed the reference to it! Yes, there is some violence in the books, but goodness always prevails. While there are no teachers at my children's school who are teaching the books, they are certainly available and popular! I think anything that gets kids excited about reading should be encouraged!
