Julie Hoffman wrote about letting her seniors read a classic and then give
an oral report. I love this idea! Once again, it is reading for pure
reading. There was no paper involved, no indept analysis. Sometimes I
think we turn children away from reading because they are expecting us to
have them tear the story apart and critique it rather than just read it. I
have students also tell me that because it is a "classic" they feel
obligated to enjoy it. I try to tell them that not everyone likes the same
thing but rather lets look at why you did or did not like it.
