Gayle, I have the same struggle with my time also. An activity that I tried
today might help. My 2nd graders are very used to our current science
program that asks many questions and lets us work together to find the
answers. Today I had the kids write down any questions that they could
think of about energy. Many had trouble with this. They are great at
coming up with answers, but wanted me to tell them what the questions should
be. Given time, they did come up with many questions about energy. I am
going to use their questions to guide the rest of my lessons in this unit.
I can also tell by their questions what they already know a lot about. I
won't need to spend much time in those areas.
