[Teacher-talkhswriters] Fw: Announcement: 2nd Webinar on Using Cell Phone in Instruction

From: Linda W. <blewd_at_neo.rr.com>
Date: Wed, 4 May 2011 15:43:04 -0400
X-Mailer: Microsoft Windows Live Mail 15.4.3508.1109

This looks interesting. I have not done it yet, but I know most students do have cellphones, whereas I only use a tracfone. I was told that this and other webinars would be archived.

Subject: Announcement: 2nd Webinar on Using Cell Phone in Instruction

Dear partners,

We had such an enthusiastic response to Susan Gaer's first webinar on using cellphones in instruction that we've invited her back to do another one. This is not a repeat of the first session.

If you'd like to view the archive of the first session, go to:

Co-Directors, LINCS Regional Resource Center 1

Join Susan Gaer, Professor of ESL and Instructional Technology Coordinator at Santa Ana College School of Continuing Education, for a second webinar on Using Cell Phones in Instruction on March 4, 2011, 12:00-1:30 pm Eastern. Sponsored by LINCS Regional Resource Center 1.

In this workshop we will review texting, photo ideas and basic audio uses as well as look at phonecasting, and social networking. We will also take a look at privacy issues and "cheating". If you took part one and wanted more, you will enjoy this workshop. If you missed part one and want to see possibilities for using cellphones in the classroom you will want to be sure not to miss this one.

Susan Gaer has an MA in Educational Technology from Pepperdine University and an MA in English: Emphasis on TESL from San Francisco State University. She is on a TESOL standing committee for Professional Development, on the board of CATESOL. She is a frequent presenter at TESOL, CATESOL and CUE (Computer Using Educators).

Susan has been teaching at Santa Ana College School of Continuing Education since 1994. She has been using technology in Education since 1991 and has developed a project-based website (http://www.susangaer.com/). She is an avid user of technology and project based learning for beginning level ESL students. In 2003 she won the David R Pierce Faculty Technology Award and received the Sadae Iwataki award from CATESOL in 2006.

She has been exploring the use of mobile and collaborative technology in the classroom for the last 2 years, starting with beginning level classes and photo projects to intermediate levels with collaborative writing tools.
