[Teacher-talkhswriters] General discussion

Hello,

The "conversation" has really picked up this past week! Technology seemed to be an interesting topic.

Linda W shared a workbook she likes, called "Writing Well," that encourages students to work with partners and has rubrics for each section - paragraphs, letters, stories.

Marelese and Leah both shared insights about their students not having much access to computers, nor much motivation to find ways to use them. But maybe the trip-planning activity and the rewriting of the student handbook will get them excited about different ways to use technology.

Linda M mentioned having a laptop cart at one site. She's using a discussion board to discuss Animal Farm online - great prep if they go on to college!

Sheryl wrote about using a "teacher computer" to project lyrics to Brooks & Dunn's "Believe" (while playing the song on You Tube. This set the stage for some narrative / descriptive writing. She also wrote about "Nicenet." If you are not familiar with Nicenet, it is a free, easy-to-use classroom communication tool. It can be used for online discussions, sharing lessons and much more.
