[Teacher-talkhslit] Expanding Canon Workshop One

Just finished the first workshop on "Reader Response." Very impressed
with all techniques employed by the instructors. Let me just add that I
have a challenging romp with my ninth graders through Shakespeare’s
“Romeo and Juliet” upcoming and I intend using many of the techniques
employed in this workshop. Dealing with “long soliloquies” and character
speeches in Elizabethan blank verse can be challenging to many of my
students, who have a tendency to use words like “boring” and “impossible
to understand” to describe the play’s language. I will use group
collaboration and the “reduction-contraction” methods learned when
dealing with the play. I have my fingers crossed.
