Our lesson
shows Shirley Hutchins' eighth grade students working in a serious
manner on the rather sensitive issue of HIV-AIDS. We see them
maturely discussing condom use, freelance sex workers, and marital
customs.
Take five
minutes to briefly answer these questions in writing:
What
opportunities and challenges do covering such subjects present?
What
strategies can you think of to foster mature handling of similar
subjects?
What
other subjects might fall into the category of "sensitive?"
During the
remaining time, discuss these issues with the group.
