Hi Brenda,
I've not been involved with taking a geography class in YEARS! They
won't delete my name! Here is a little vague discussion. The USA
could easily practice isolationism from all of Europe unless it
wanted involvement due to the long distance between the areas. Our
involvement around the world has been driven by other lands
resources, oil, minerals, etc., and in the case of Europe what's been
deemed ancestral or ethnic ties. In Europe, in spite of the
occasional mountain range, i.e., the Alps, countries like Germany,
Austria, have been subject to invasions and Germany in particular
often took on the "preemptive strike" approach that seems so popular
with today's USA policy. Hope this helps as you conduct exchanges
with students still in the program.
