Hi
It is nice to hear that someone is out there. I am on workshop # 7. I do
agree with you that the people having the discussions are very interesting.
This is the first course that I have taken here and I am very impressed. I
have taken many things back to my classroom. I really liked the sticky note
activity. When I did it in my classroom the children said they really liked
doing it. The first time it was very hard to get them talking, the second
time it worked much better. They said they really liked talking about how
they feel about the story. They told me that so often they don't get to
share their feelings. The hard part I had with this whole process was
letting go and having the students read silently to themselves. I am so
used to controlling my reading class-I needed to let go. I teach fourth
grade-I need to remember that my children do know how to read-I need to help
them get in touch with what they are reading. Some good books that I use
are Because of Winn Dixie, Holes, Mouse and Motorcycle, Sign of the Beaver,
A Long Way from Chicago. For read aloud I just read Tales of a Despereaux
by Kate DiCamillo---Awesome read aloud!!!!!!
Again I really enjoy this class and I am getting so much out of it
