[Teacher-talkeconomics] New Activities

From: Kristie Kinneberg <hakr0505_at_gmail.com_at_learner.org>

When looking at different activities to do for your classes, what do you
consider? I like to do different jig saw activities or small group
discussions. I have only recently started to use simulation (mock trial) in
my class. This course has given me many great ideas with how I can approach
teaching different economic principles, but I am not sure all these
activities (or types of activities) would work in my 10th grade U.S.
History class. I need some guidance on how to go about determining which
activities will work best for my students’ abilities. I am aware that this
may change from year to year, or that I might really not like how a certain
activity played out in my classroom, but I would like to start becoming
more adventurous and try new things in my classroom. Next year I want to
shift away from traditional grading and focus more on project based
learning. I have a lot of work to do and I want to keep things interesting
for my students by not repeating the same type of activity over and over
again. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks!
