Welcome to the on-line consultancy being offered by Kim Carter of =
Souhegan High School. My name is Jennifer Mueller. I am Dean of Faculty =
at Souhegan High School and a CFG coach. As facilitator of the =
consultancy, I will review the norms and the format for the consultancy. =

Please refer to =
www.learner.org/worshops/criticalissues/resources/studentwork1.ht=
ml for a detailed description of the consultancy protocol that we will =
be following over the next 9 days.

Because communication on-line is different from face-to-face =
conversations, please use the following norms as guidelines for your =
participation: (Modified from Group Norms for a "Library Virtual CFG", =
initially defined 5/4/96 in Santa Cruz, CA)

Group Norms for on-line conversations

1. Be honest.=20

2. Use "I" statements instead of "you" statements.

3. Acknowledge and recognize all ideas.

4. No put-downs.

5. Humor, yes; sarcasm, no.=20

6. Ask clarifying questions.

7. Disagree with ideas not people.

8. Find ways to code on-line messages for special needs (e.g. "urgent =
response needed") and use emoticons to help convey understanding: J , L =
.

9. Try to ask questions, not make statements.

10. Generate thinking - rather than make judgements.

The first step of the consultancy asks Kim to provide an overview of her =
work. In the next message, I will post Kim=92s overview which highlights =
the question she is struggling with and some attached documents. After =
reading Kim=92s overview, the next step gives you the chance to ask =
clarifying questions that you may have. I will post an introduction to =
Step 2:Clarifying Questions on Thursday, March 11, 1999.
