[Channel-talkchemistry] Reactions in chemistry workshop #7
Classroom climate can take several years to develop. I have my student
evaluation at the end of each year. I keep a file of those and I drag them
out every year to remind myself what I have improve on and what I still have
to work on. "...outstanding teachers makes class feel relaxed and makes
the class participate..." is a balance between setting high standards and
holding students to those standards and developing a classroom atmosphere
where students feel safe to ask and answer questions. I have had both my
daughters in class and I always appreciate their feedback. Some of those
personal traits that are important in good teaching include being patient
and fair while being enthusiastic and calm. A lot of the work my students
do involve working in cooperative groups. I have found over years that
students working together can be very effective in explaining complex
chemistry topics.
