Another lab for decomposition of hydrogen peroxide is using coffeecup calorimeters and MnO2 as a catalyst. Students observe the color of solutions before and after the reation, and realize that the catalyst is still present at the end. Then we talk about catalysts and enzymes lowering the activation energy, but not being consumed during the reaction. Car catalytic convertors are another topic of interest here.
