I just spent 30 minutes paging through lesson ideas from the January session
of this class. It is great to see the ideas being shared. I am already
planning to implement many video and forum ideas into my own lessons.
One idea I have is introduced when we discuss gases. The Kinetic Molecular
Theory based on Ideal Gases has no real meaning to students. They don't seem
to link the ideas, therefore I require them to draw an ideal gas based on the
theory. They can represent it any way they choose (as long as all points are
demonstrated) and then explain it on the reverse side. As they begin, they
realize it is impossible for an ideal gas to exist, but also how the
atoms/molecules tend to behave. It gives the words meaning and their picture is truly
worth a 1000 of my words.
