The Artifacts & Fiction workshop series was created by videotaping a live workshop-based course in reading and using artifacts in the classroom. This course was attended by nine literature teachers who received credit through Portland State University.

Each of the eight hour-long videos in the workshop series presents the teachers working with an Interdisciplinary Expert in a class focused on using artifacts from a particular discipline. At the end of each class, the teachers work together in the computer lab to develop their own lesson plans using artifacts from the featured discipline. Each video then follows one of the teachers into the high school classroom, where she or he applies this new teaching approach. Afterward, the teacher reflects on what aspects of the lesson were successful—and what could be improved in future classes.
