Esmeralda Santiago

Esmeralda Santiago discusses her passion for writing about culture, identity, and language, and shares about life growing up in Brooklyn, New York. She explains how reading and a love of books transformed her life and taught her about the larger world. Santiago discusses the challenges she initially faced when trying to publish her stories and describes how she was driven by the frustration of not seeing Latinas reflected in literature. Says Santiago, "This is long, long, overdue that these stories get told and that women take control of telling their own stories."
