A Special Performance by the Author

Music, Love, and Survival
Part 3: On the Kindertransport to England

In this part of her performance, Mona describes the scene at the train station in Vienna, as hundreds of children, including Lisa, say good-bye to their parents. We hear of Lisa’s journey, her brief position as a maid at Peacock Manor, and how Lisa makes her way back to London.

Questions to Discuss With Students

  • Think about the moods and feelings evoked by Debussy’s “Clair de Lune.” How might this piece have been important to Lisa on her journey?
  • Why was it so difficult for Lisa not to be able to play the piano while she was at Peacock Manor?
