The
National Geography Standards
The
National Geography Standards for this program include
standards 10, 12, and 13. You may read in-depth descriptions
of specific standards by clicking on the links below.
All of the standards are available here.
Standard 10:
The characteristics, distribution, and complexity of
Earth's cultural mosaics.
Standard
12: The processes, patterns, and functions of
human settlement.
Standard
13: How the forces of cooperation and conflict
among people influence the division and control of Earth's
surface.
The
case study Montreal: An Island of French is a
clear example of how the French language and culture
have shaped the character of the province of Quebec.
Vancouver: Hong Kong East highlights the differing
characteristics of settlement between the incoming Chinese
and the Anglo residents of Vancouver, British Columbia.
In both case studies, neighborhood character and differing
points of view and self-interest play a role in the
conflict over sense of place.
