The
National Geography Standards for this program include
standards 4, 9, 11, and 13. You may read in-depth descriptions
of specific standards by clicking on the links below.
All of the standards are available here.
Standard
4: The physical and human characteristics of
places.
Standard
9: The characteristics, distribution, and migration
of human populations on Earth's surface.
Standard
11: The patterns and networks of economic interdependence
on Earth's surface.
Standard
13: How the forces of cooperation and conflict
among people influence the division and control of Earth's
surface.
The
first case study, Mexico: Motive to Migrate,
explores how migration patterns are a response to economic
opportunities. Guatemala: Population and Conquest
provides a historical view of how conflict shapes the
distribution of social, political, and economic areas
in Guatemala. The case study examines differing points
of view regarding the allocation of territory and resources.
