The
National Geography Standards
The
National Geography Standards for this program include
1, 4, 5, 6, and 9. You may read in-depth descriptions
of specific standards by clicking on the links below.
All of the standards are available here.
Standard
1: How to use maps and other geographic representations,
tools, and technologies to acquire, process, and report
information from a spatial perspective.
Standard
4: The physical and human characteristics of
places.
Standard
5: That people create regions to interpret Earth's
complexity.
Standard
6: How culture and experience influence people's
perceptions of places and regions.
Standard
9: The characteristics, distribution, and migration
of human populations on Earth's surface.
Twin
Cities, Divided Lives follows Concha Martinez as
she migrates back and forth between Mexico and the United
States. Her illegal journey, and subsequent factory
work, not only brings her across the border of two countries
but across two geographical regions.
Operation
Hold the Line looks at how regions may be formal,
informal, and/or functional. It also shows how the experience
of a Mexican immigrant to El Paso might cause him to
perceive the borderland region very differently from
a member of the U.S. border patrol.
