perceptions of places and regions.
Standard
10: The characteristics, distribution, and complexity
of Earth's cultural mosaics.
Standard
12: The processes, patterns, and functions of
human settlement.
Standard
13: How the forces of cooperation and conflict
among people influence the division and control of Earth's
surface.
Jerusalem:
Capital of Two States? explores one of the most
colorful and tumultuous cultural mosaics in the world.
The confluence of three of the world's major religions
in Jerusalem shows how different groups view places
and regions differently. The varying attitudes associated
with religion go a long way toward answering the question
of how cultures shape the character and settlement pattern
of a region. In Turkey: Fundamental Change, the
video program shows a similar conflict between groups
and their perceptions of place by comparing the secular
and the religious in Turkey.
