The World in Spatial Terms

  1. Develop maps that depict the relative location of Singapore and Australia compared to other parts of Asia. Discuss the positive and negative factors of location.
  2. Identify and explain the factors that lead to migration of populations. Compare and contrast the historical immigration patterns in Australia and Singapore.
  3. Develop a map that portrays the countries that people emigrated from to provide a graphic representation of the flow of populations over time.

Uses of Geography

  1. How do the countries of Australia and Singapore differ?
  2. What are the economic bases of Singapore and Australia and how are their economies related?
  3. Explain and discuss how the two countries have overcome unique obstacles: isolation in the case of Australia and a limited resource base in the case of Singapore.
  4. List the consequences of population growth due to immigration in terms of economics, ethnic diversity, and political changes. Develop mock immigration committees responsible for policy decisions in both Singapore and Australia.
