Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Dr. Aborn's research involves catching birds and putting numbered leg bands on for individual identification. Last Friday, he caught his first Ruby-throated Hummingbird of the year shown in this photo.

Are you ready for their arrival? Whether returning over land route (via Mexico and Gulf states) or sea (over the Gulf of Mexico), hummingbirds are hungry when they arrive. They'll be eager to eat from your nectar-filled feeders and flowers! There has to be food all along the way to fuel their high metabolism and provide frequent feedings for such tiny bodies.
