Cook School's O'Keeffe Inspired Tulip Drawings
Focusing-in for Abstract Art "Nobody sees a flower, really--it is so small--we haven't time, and to see takes time, like to have a friend takes time." Georgia O'Keeffe (1887-1986) To help her students really see parts and pieces of a flower, teacher Teri Bickmore tried something new this spring. " I laminated 3 different 8" x 10" photos of tulip flowers. Then I outlined interesting 1" square areas on the photos which I cut out. Each student used a 1" square photo piece as a guide for creating a drawing on a 4" square of paper. I also printed 4" x 6" photos of the tulips, which were not cut, so that students could refer back to the whole original picture." -Terri Bickmore, Cook School, Midland, MI
