Monarch/Grade 5/Texas/Organization Strategy
All 15 of our Fifth Grade classes participated. I took the role of the lead teacher and would copy all of the Monarch reports and deliver them to each class. The Language Arts teachers incorporated "Letter Writing" and took charge of the "Monarchs with Messages", and the Science Teachers took care of the mathematical and scientifict aspects of the migration. Our art teacher had the students make monarchs to hang in the hall during Journey South. This study not only made our students aware of this phenomenon...it also made the student's families and the community aware, too. As a result of this program, we are beginning to think differently about protecting our environment.
