The dark days and frigid temperatures of Alaska's long winter are good for studying ice on rivers and lakes. Who wants to bundle up and tramp through deep snow on thick ice to drill holes, drop instruments, and take readings? To help scientists, the students at Innoko River School in Shageluk, Alaska have been doing this since 1973. Their school is an official study site for *ALISON (Alaska Lake Ice and Snow Observatory Network). Come along on the adventure!
