Speckled Juveniles, Busy Parents
Robin babies are still speckled but strong and independent just 12-15 days after leaving the nest. Dad taught them to join with other robins so they could watch
and learn. Now Dad is teaching the newest fledglings (you'll know them by their little short tails). Robin parents work from sunrise to sunset to raise two or three batches of babies on their summer breeding range. Caring for babies costs parents much time and energy. Migratory birds can do this for only a short time in their annual cycle, and robins start few new nests after late July.
