Male or Female?

Notice that the robin on the left is brighter in color. That is the male. The female is on the right. Her colors look washed out and faded compared to the darker, richer colors of the male.

This picture was taken in early April in Vermont. Robins were just beginning to return. These two robins were migrating through. They were traveling in a flock with hundreds of other robins, mostly males. There were only a few females, maybe one female for every 10 or 15 males.
