Printed-Leaf
Time Line Book

To work with colorful paints delights most students. This project uses the pressed leaves, or possibly fresh leaves to make a record of leaf sizes as spring progresses. Again, have the students carefully label the leaves with the date collected. Using a blank accordion book, have them arrange them sequentially and lightly pencil in the dates on the pages. Prepare a painting area where they can work. Have some colorful paints available and demonstrate brushing or sponging a light layer of paint on the backside of the leaves. The leaf is then positioned on the page and pressed and rubbed to transfer the paint to the page. A napkin or paper towel can be placed on top of the prepared leaf to make the rubbing easier. The paint should dry quickly. Using any information about temperature and weather conditions that they collected in their Journey North journals and other interesting facts they can find in field guides, have your students embellish the pages to make their own printed-leaf time lines fact-filled.
