| Adult Female Two clues suggest this is likely an adult female Ruby-throated Hummingbird. Tail: The white-tipped tail feathers tell us this is a female or a juvenile (male or female). Time of year: Because the picture was taken in early summer, before the young have fledged, we know if must be an adult female. Imagine being light enough to stand on a flower petal! Image: Tom Ernst
