| Juvenile Male Near summer's end, some young males MAY show one (or perhaps several) red throat feathers. Some juvenile males show the darker "5 o'clock shadow" of the heavier streaking on their white throat. Males do not get the full red throat patch, called the gorget, until their first winter.
