Rufous Hummingbirds Gone Astray? Making Sense of Unusual Sightings This winter, observers in the Eastern U.S. reported something that might seem strange: rufous hummers hanging around! January 13: " I live approximately 60 miles north of Atlanta, GA, and have had a Rufous Hummingbird at my feeder since August 7, 2008. This is his second winter with me, but in 2007 he departed on December 12. This year, however, he has stayed well into the coldest part of the winter." What's so odd about that? Read on . . .
