Airborne Jewels

Anticipation builds
as spring unfolds —

In my mind’s eye
I can clearly see

dozens, hundreds, thousands
of airborne jewels

converging
on the Gulf Coast,

resting and refueling,

then fanning out
and heading north;

Goodwill messengers
from the south

bringing
their brilliant colors,

the incredible energy
of one-ounce dynamos,

the vibrant hum
of intense living,

and the reassurance

that the magic
of Mother Nature

endures.
