"My 7X50 binoculars let in a lot of light. They are easier to hold steady than binoculars that magnify more. Binoculars that are 7 X 50 means they magnify 7 times what you see (which isn't a lot for binoculars) and they have a wide lens opening (the 50). They are also wide angle view binoculars. These binoculars cost over $500. While you don't need high-priced binoculars to watch whales (sometimes you don't even need binoculars), it sure does help." Mike Hawe
