Meet Tom Stehn!

Tom Stehn is the Whooping Crane Coordinator at Aransas NWR.
He works for the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS).
Tom is co-leader of the International Crane Recovery Team. The team is part of a partnership of groups helping to bring whooping cranes back from the brink of extinction. Tom has been helping whooping cranes since 1982!

A view over Texas crane country from the plane. See any whooping cranes?   This map shows the 115,000-acre refuge where the Western flock of whooping cranes spends winter. Because you can't see whooping crane habitat from the refuge roads, Tom flies in a plane to do weekly crane counting during migration season.
