No Go. Float or Blow But No Flying (+0 Miles)
December 9, 2009: Migration Day 55

Photo Bev Paulan, Operation Migration

In the past week it's been freezing cold and then warm for the birds and the team. Yesterday's rains brought flood warnings. Howling winds during the night rocked the team's motorhomes. Operation Migration's Liz said it best: "Last night I thought we might float away. This morning I think we might blow away. The one thing we won't be doing this morning is flying away." Yes, everyone's hunkered in for Down Day #4 in Carroll County, Tennessee. How will you do on today's journal questions?

CraneCam is live each day from about 6:30 to 10:00 a.m. and again from 3:30 to 4:30 in the afternoon. TrikeCam is live during migration flights.

In the Classroom

  • (a) What do you suppose the young cranes are thinking? Write some captions for today's photo. What's the answer to the question under the photo? (b-for-bonus) See our Migration Math page, fill in the blanks, and do some figuring for the status as of day 55. (Click on "News" on the navigation bars at the top or the bottom of the page. Flight days are in dark type. Miles flown appears at the top of each report.)

Journey North is pleased to feature this educational adventure presented in cooperation with the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership (WCEP).
